The Lviv to Kraków transfer takes between 5 and 7 hours depending on the route and border crossing conditions. The distance between the two cities is approximately 360–375 km. The most common route runs through Shehyni or Medyka.

What routes are available and what affects the choice

There is no single fixed route between Lviv and Kraków. The driver chooses the way based on the border queue, road conditions, and the final destination in Kraków.

Main route: Lviv – Shehyni – Medyka – Przemyśl – Kraków. From Przemyśl, it’s about 90 km to Kraków, so this route is well familiar to drivers.

Alternative route: Lviv – Rava-Ruska – Hrebenne – then via Polish roads to Kraków. This option is useful when there are long queues at Shehyni. The total distance is similar, but travel time may vary.

How long does the Lviv to Kraków trip take

Under normal conditions, the trip takes 5-6 hours. However, a few factors can add to that time:

  • Border crossing queue: anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours
  • Time of day: queues are shorter at night
  • Day of the week: Friday evenings and Sundays see more traffic at the border
  • Roadworks: especially in summer on the Polish side

On average, allow 6-7 hours from departure in Lviv to the center of Kraków. If your final destination is Kraków Balice Airport, add another 20-30 minutes from the city center.

Przemyśl: a transit stop along the route

Most Lviv – Kraków transfer routes pass through Przemyśl. This Polish city sits just 15-20 km from the border and is where the A4 motorway begins, leading straight to Kraków.

From Przemyśl to Kraków via the A4 takes about 1.5-2 hours. The motorway is toll-based: passenger cars pay a few zloty on the Przemyśl-Kraków stretch.

Przemyśl is also a convenient pickup point for additional passengers. For example, if part of a group is traveling from Lviv while others have made their own way to Przemyśl, the driver can pick everyone up in one place – which brings down the cost per person.

Some passengers book a ride only from Przemyśl to Kraków if they’ve already reached the Polish border town on their own. That works just as well.

The route through Przemyśl allows for a 20-30 minute stop in the city if agreed in advance. Some passengers use the break to grab a bite or pick up some Polish złoty.

The A4 from Przemyśl to Kraków is a smooth road with speed limits of 120-140 km/h. Most drivers cover this stretch in 1.5 hours without any traffic delays.

Traveling to Kraków Airport: what to keep in mind

Transfers to the airport require separate planning. John Paul II Airport is located 11 km from the center of Kraków.

There are a few things to keep in mind when booking. Check-in closes 40-60 minutes before departure. Border queues can cause delays of 1-2 hours. For this reason, it’s recommended to book a flight no earlier than 8–9 hours after departing Lviv. Early morning flights are best combined with a nighttime departure.

For a 6:00 AM flight, it’s better to leave Lviv around 8:00-9:00 PM the previous evening. Night border crossings are usually much faster, so passengers arrive in Kraków in the morning with plenty of time to check in.

The driver picks up passengers from a specified address in Lviv or from any city along the route in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, or Ternopil regions.

For those heading to the center of Kraków, convenient drop-off points include Kraków Main Railway Station or the Main Market Square. The driver will take passengers directly to a specific address – a hotel, university, or office.

If a passenger is flying into Kraków and wants to return to Lviv, that is a separate booking. mytaxitransfer24 does not operate routes from abroad into Ukraine. Current transfer routes from Ukraine go only to Kraków and other cities in Poland.

Taxi Lviv – Kraków or transfer: what’s the difference

The terms “taxi Lviv – Kraków” and “transfer Lviv – Kraków” are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. A taxi is primarily a city service with metering or a flat urban rate.

A transfer is a pre-arranged trip with a fixed price, a set departure time, and door-to-door pickup. For long routes, a transfer is more practical: the passenger knows the price before departure and doesn’t pay extra for waiting at the border.

With mytaxitransfer24, it’s one and the same service. The car, driver, and route are all agreed in advance. The price is fixed and doesn’t change due to traffic or border delays.

Price and related routes

The price depends on the type of vehicle – sedan, minivan, or minibus, the number of passengers, departure time, and any additional stops.

For passengers with a lot of luggage: the choice of vehicle depends on the number of suitcases. A sedan works well for 1-2 people with light luggage. A minivan is suitable for groups or those traveling with a lot of belongings. It’s worth specifying the amount of luggage when booking – the driver will arrange a vehicle of the appropriate class.

Routes like Ternopil – Kraków or Ivano-Frankivsk – Kraków follow a similar path. The driver picks up passengers in towns along the way by prior arrangement. This is a good option for those not starting from Lviv.

For night trips, a minivan or larger vehicle allows passengers to stretch out and get comfortable. For routes over 5 hours, this makes a real difference.

Stops along the way are also possible – at a petrol station or cafe, for example. The driver will stop on request as long as it doesn’t affect the overall schedule. For trips with children, stops are especially important – it’s worth arranging them when booking.

It’s best to book 1-2 days in advance. This allows time to agree on the departure time, route, and number of seats.

Who typically chooses this route

This route is popular among several categories of passengers.

Those flying from Kraków: Kraków airport has far more international flights than most Ukrainian airports. So passengers choose a direct transfer instead of connecting through Warsaw or Vienna.

Those traveling for work or study: many Ukrainians live, work, and study in Kraków. A private transfer is more practical than a bus if there is luggage involved or trips are irregular.

Groups of 3-7 people: when traveling together, the price per person is comparable to a bus ticket, but the journey is direct with no transfers or stops.
